Dubai authorities have outlined a list of food and drink that are now banned in all education facilities in the emirate.
As parents we try to do the best for our children when it comes to food, with many mums and dads limiting junk food and treats to the weekend. But in school it is often hard to keep control of what they are eating. Now the Food Control Department of Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Health Authority have published a guide that aims to improve the standard of food being served in school canteens across Dubai. Mums Like Us is happy to see such a big step being taken to tackle kids health and the rising diabetes and obesity rates among young people.
Here are the foods canteens will not be able to serve.
Milk and yogurt with synthetic flavors
All types of chewing gum and candies
Sweets composed of excessive sugar and colorants
Food items containing monosodium glutamate (but not in foods found naturally in tomatoes, cheese and other foods) MSG is used in the food industry as a flavor enhancer)
High-fat and deep fried food
