This month many hospitals and clinics are offering checks for all women.
Breast cancer is shockingly the leading cause of death amongst women in the UAE, with the World Health Organisation blaming this on the lack of early detection. The good news is that it is curable if found before it develops which is why being screened regularly is vital. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and, although we should be checking our breasts throughout the year, it is a good time to remind all women from 40 up (or younger if there are family risk factors) to seek a professional mammogram. This month many hospitals and clinics are offering free checks so there is no excuse.
